Developing Story: A large number of people have been shot, according to reports, in “The Pulse“, an LGBTQ night club in Orlando, Florida. At least 50 people have been killed, by a shooter who then barricaded himself inside the club, possibly with hostages – and was thought to be carrying a bomb.
At some point, the police have conducted a controlled explosion, and have later reported that the shooter inside the club is dead.
Orlando police have urged people to “stay away” from the area, confirming “a mass casualty situation”. Ricardo Negron, who was in the club when the shooting began, told Sky News: “At around 2am someone started shooting. People just dropped on the floor… People have definitely been injured – or worse.”
Negron also wrote this, on the club’s Facebook page:
I was there. Shooter opened fire @ around 2:00am. People on the dance floor and bar got down on the floor and some of us who were near the bar and back exit managed to go out through the outdoor area and just ran. I am safely home and hoping everyone gets home safely as well 🙁
A short while after the shooting began, an emergency message was written on the club’s Facebook page: “Everyone get out of pulse and keep running”
A video posted on Facebook by an eyewitness at the scene, shows some of the mayhem and confusion, with shots still being fired:
